Mazda Pro8 New Zealand

As the first Racing Series to become Sanctioned, Pro7 racing has remained one of the most innovative and cost effective racing categories in NZ motor sport. And now includes the RX8 class.

To provide a drivers championship, Pro7 racing maintains a controlled rulebook which limits modification to the three models of Mazda RX7 production cars that are eligible to compete.

The now classic Series One RX7 provides an entry level opportunity to those who are starting out while also providing a low cost form of motor racing to many who remain hooked on this now collectable car. For the career driver who is looking to further their motor sport interest, the later Series 4 and Series 6 Batmobile models and Rx8 offer an elevated level of sophistication in both driving experience and car set up.

Unique in its career path concept Pro7 survives on a continual intake of “new to motor sport” enthusiasts, yet boasts one of the highest retention rates in the sport.

The series has tightly policed rules to ensure parity.

The series has a great social aspect with a BBQ and drinks for all members and crew at rounds, making for a great time.

• R0 - 10th Aug 2024 - Levels - Enduro Cup

• R1 - 12/13 Oct 2024 - Ruapuna - Speed Festival

• R2 - 7/8 Dec 2024 - Teretonga - December Race

• R3 - 25/26 Jan 2025 - Levels - Thunder Downunder

• R4 - 1st Mar 2025 - Highlands - Sprint Round

• R5 - 22/23 Mar 2025 - Ruapuna - Super Weekend

Event Format

This varies between single day and multi day events.

• Qualifying - 15 mins 

• Race 1 - 8 laps, results from qualifying

• Race 2 - 8 laps marble draw 

• Race 3 - 8 laps reverse marble draw  

• Race 4 - 8 laps points determine grid over the weekend.

Single Class - Mazda RX8’s with standard 6 port motors and gearboxes, aftermarket brake pads, disks, LSD and suspension

C1 grade Competition License or higher required.
